Apple Music has unveiled Australia’s most-streamed songs of the year – and it puts a glaring spotlight on an issue many local artists have been speaking out about for months.
In the list of 50 hits, Taylor Swift features eight times alone. That’s four times the amount of Australian artists who had one song be streamed enough to make the cut.
Vance Joy is one of the two Australian artists who feature on the list – both Australian artists didn’t even crack the top 30 – and it’s with his 11-year-old single Riptide.
It comes as artists including Tones and I and Young Franco have been speaking out about how challenging it is for Australian musicians to make it in the mainstream.
“The goalposts have changed over the last couple of years,” Young Franco told 9honey Celebrity in April. “It’s an interesting spot to be in.”
Read on to see the top 50 most-streamed songs in Australia on Apple Music in 2024 – and who the second Australian artist who made the list is.
