Kansas has been forced to cancel two shows after the ’70s rock band’s frontman received worrying news.
Lead singer Ronnie Platt – who took over from Steve Walsh after he retired in 2014 – has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
”For all of you asking, Tuesday I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer but before everyone gets all excited, it has a 99 per cent survival rate, it has not spread,” Platt wrote on his Facebook page this week, revealing he has to undergo treatment.

“It’s contained to my thyroid. I just have to have my thyroid removed. Go through some rehab time and be right back in the saddle,” Platt, 64, continued.
Platt said he appreciated sincerely his fans’ “positive thoughts and prayers” and noted he has ”some absolutely amazing people going to bat for me!!”
“As it has been put to me, this is just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! So everyone please CARRY ON!,” he concluded in a reference to the hit Carry on Wayward Son.

Days later, Kansas confirmed they had to cancel two upcoming shows due to Platt’s diagnosis and treatment.
”Due to band illness and doctor advisement, the upcoming KANSAS show on Saturday, March 1, 2025, in Lake Charles, LA has been cancelled,” Kansas wrote on Instagram alongside an apology.
“The band apologises for the inconvenience and hopes to be back on the road soon. All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Kansas is currently in the middle of their 50th anniversary tour Another Fork in the Road, and had previously postponed their February 14 and February 15 shows to November this year.
Manager J.R. Rees has since confirmed to Ultimate Classic Rock that the band will be putting a pause on all shows in the foreseeable future to support their frontman.
Rees said: “Our goal is to be back on the road as soon as possible. Right now, we’re all focused on supporting Ronnie through this.”
