The second edition of the French Film Festival Kolkata began on Saturday, drawing top filmmakers and industry veterans. Director Anubhav Sinha, actor Naseeruddin Shah, National Award-winning director Goutam Ghose, and actor Anasuya Sengupta attended the opening day at Nandan. Anubhav Sinha inaugurated the festival, emphasizing its significance. He also spoke about Kolkata’s cinematic culture and the impact of its films.

The director shared his thoughts and said, “I love Kolkata, and also the films and food they make here. The city is fortunate to have so many film festivals.”

From Mulk, which addressed communal tensions, to Article 15, highlighting caste-based discrimination, and Thappad, which sparked conversations about gender dynamics, Sinha has consistently pushed boundaries with his storytelling.
His meticulous approach to filmmaking, attention to authenticity, and ability to evoke powerful performances from actors have earned him recognition. Anubhav Sinha’s films, including Article 15, Thappad, Mulk, and Bheed, have received widespread recognition.
