The much-awaited film Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, was released today in cinemas. The film has received a lot of acclaim for its subject, execution and performances. As the film begins, it soon becomes clear why Vicky has been mentioned. The talented actor has done the voiceover in the beginning of the film. The voiceover neatly establishes the setting of the film.
Kesari Chapter 2 is based on the book ‘The Case That Shook The Empire: One Man’s Fight For The Truth About The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre’ by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. It focuses on the aftermath of the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre of Amritsar in April 1919 and how the British had to accept defeat in the court thanks to the bravery and valour of an Indian lawyer.
Interestingly, this is the second time that Vicky Kaushal has been associated with a film based on the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre. He was earlier seen in Sardar Udham (2021), directed by Shoojit Sircar. In this historical flick, Vicky played the role of Udham Singh, who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Vicky’s performance was unanimously loved in this film.
Moreover, Vicky Kaushal also has an old association with both the production houses of Kesari Chapter 2. He was seen last year in Bad Newz (2024), which, like Kesari Chapter 2, was produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Amritpal Singh Bindra and Anand Tiwari’s Leo Media Collective. That’s not all. He featured in Anand Tiwari’s OTT romcom Love Per Square Foot (2018) and also Dharma’s productions like Raazi (2018), Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship (2020) and Govinda Naam Mera (2022).
