Katy Perry shares therapist’s advice about negative reviews after album ‘flop’


Katy Perry has revealed the life advice she learned in therapy that helps her in her music career.

The singer, 40, told People when speaking about critics and album reviews that she doesn’t pay attention to the naysayers.

“My therapist said something that really changed my life. What anybody thinks about you is none of your business,” she explained.

The Roar singer added about reviews: “You shouldn’t read it when it’s good. You shouldn’t read it when it’s bad.”

Perry has just celebrated the release of her new album, 143, which features tracks including Woman’s World, Gimme Gimme and I’m His, He’s Mine. It received some negative reviews from critics.

She recently was awarded the 2024 Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards.

The Teenage Dream singer put on an incredible performance to celebrate the career milestone, with the award being presented to her by her actor fiancé Orlando Bloom.

“I fell in love with her as Katheryn Hudson,” Bloom sweetly began his presentation speech as he introduced her to the stage, gushing over Perry.

After Perry hit the stage to perform her new single Lifetimes, she shared a long kiss with Bloom, 47, before thanking her family and fans for their support over the years.

“I just want to say with my whole heart: Do whatever it takes to stay true to yourself and true to your art,” she said.

Just four months ago, Perry announced her first Australian tour, and is set to play shows Down Under in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth from June 9.

Before that, she thrilled fans with her electrifying performance at the AFL Grand Final.

She entered the stadium on a futuristic-looking vehicle before singing hits including Dark Horse, California Gurls, Roar and I Kissed A Girl.

She was even joined on stage by Tina Arena.
